Flower Fields Volunteer Opportunity

During the spring and summer months, flowers are grown at an organic farm outside the city limits of Elk Grove. The flowers are grown to be given away to those who are grieving. This year, we are incorporating Together We Heal Community with the flowers, because we believe that there is healing in working the soil. If you are interesting in volunteering please click the button below to fill out volunteer information.

REQUEST FLOWERS (We have this button turned off outside of the flower season.)

Why do we do this?

Because we feel that it’s a sure way to spread joy! We have been providing free flowers through Together We Heal Community for years and we feel it is an amazing way to help others connect with those around them. We love hearing the stories of how the flowers have touched others. Please share your experience with us on our Instagram page or a google review. The more people who know about the flowers, the more we can spread joy together!

In 2013 Founder, Jill Batiansila met Cliff Wilcox, the owner of Stone Lake Farms for the first time. Here’s her story of how the flowers got started.

“Something about Cliff and his farm spoke to me. My grandfather and father were both farmers, and somehow Cliff’s place made me feel at home. I was his helper who came every week on a Wednesday. We weeded, planted, dug holes on our knees, had deep discussions about life and religion and politics. We ate breakfast on his deck, dinner at his kitchen table and even taste-tested whiskey on occasion.

Then one year I got a push from God to plant flowers…just plant flowers. I asked “the boss” if I could grow some and he said, “sure, kid, without any hesitation. That first year in 2016 I threw a hose down a 300-foot row of dirt and grew flowers and weeds. I gave them away to friends and neighbors…and it felt good.

God said, “Do that some more.” So, I did.

Today, we have a team of hard-working, devoted volunteers who help me grow flowers to give away each year. We are about to plant our 9th year of flowers and give them away to grievers in our community. Last year alone, we gave away over 700 jars! We collaborated with the Sacramento County Law Enforcement Chaplains and gave flowers to individuals in all 17 dispatch offices around Sacramento County!

If you’re needing to spread some joy to someone or if you need some yourself, you can pick them up every week starting in June!* Please stay connected through our newsletter to see all we are offering the rest of the year.

If you would like to volunteer on our flower team, please fill out this form HERE.
